WHITE FLEET RETURNS
Portuguese Tour Resounding Success!
The White Fleet Suite has returned from a magical tour of Portugal in May of 2024. NL musicians Pamela Morgan, Duane Andrews and Kyle Gryphon were joined onstage by nine musicians from Portugal.
We were also joined by a documentary film crew, thanks to funding from Celebrate NL Year of the Arts, and will be staging a remount of an enhanced production of the White Fleet Suite on November 8, 2024, which will also be filmed for an upcoming documentary about the White Fleet Voyage. One night only!
White Fleet Suite Premiere

The spectacular White Fleet Suite premiered in St John's November 2023 to packed houses and rave reviews. The premiere was attended by the Portuguese Consul General to Montreal, and Lieutenant Governor Judy Foote. 'Magnificent", "moving", "stunning", "a major contribution to our musical heritage."

A celebration of the Portuguese Newfoundland connection forged over centuries of the cod fishery. Featuring Pamela Morgan,(composer, producer) Duane Andrews, (musical director), Aaron Collis, Frank Fusari, Bill Brennan, Agnes Walsh, the Atlantic String Quartet, and musical guests from Portugal- Teofilo Cerqueira, Aurea Gomes, Zeze Fernandes.

The Portuguese have fished off the coast of Newfoundland for centuries. The White Fleet would often visit the port of St. John's to take on supplies or to shelter from the weather. They were a welcome sight, bringing their music, wine, soccer, language and friendship. Relationships were forged and treasured. We shared a common bond, hand-lining cod in some of the most dangerous waters in the world, always at the mercy of the elements, and we opened our homes and hearts to these windswept sailors from far away.
The White Fleet Suite is a tribute to those wooden ships and Iron men from those exotic and passionate times. It is a musical presentation highlighting our shared culture and history, with traditional and original music, song, and poetry from NL and Portugal, and visuals from archival sources and private collections.

Os portugueses pescam na costa da Terra Nova há séculos. A Frota Branca costumava visitar o porto de St. John's para comprar suprimentos ou se proteger do clima. Eles foram uma visão bem-vinda, trazendo sua música, vinho, futebol, língua e amizade. Relacionamentos foram forjados e valorizados.
